HNC ACCOUNTING

This course will increase your competence in financial and management accounting. It will help you gain relevant work and/or progress to HND or degree-level study.

    The course includes aspects of financial and management accounting, cost accounting, SAGE accounting, economics, information technology and business law.

Entry requirements

  • Pass at C grade or above in a relevant Higher such as business management, English, maths or accounting or
  • Relevant group award at National 5/Intermediate 2 or NC Accounting or
  • Foundation Apprenticeship in a related subject
  • Those with relevant work experience should apply and will be assessed at interview
  • Internal candidates – completion of all course units (NC accounting level 5/business management level 6)
  • Microsoft Excel skills (we will check these at interview and, if you need to learn these, we will offer you a place on our summer school to do this before the course starts)

 

  • Where it leads

    Education: HND accounting at West Lothian College or university. The course allows direct entry to Heriot Watt University to second year on the MA in accounting and finance.

    Employment: posts such as trainee accountant or accounts technician and other roles within accounting/business.

Interview Arrangements

If you are invited for an interview for this course, plan to be in college for around three hours. We ask you to prepare a written task at home before the interview and to bring this with you on the day. If you need help with this, please contact us.

The interview involves:

  • Presentation from the course lecturer
  • Interview with the lecturer and another course tutor
  • Speaking about the task you prepared for a couple of minutes, followed by some questions from the interviewers
