FOUNDATION APPRENTICESHIP IN ICT: SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

If you are interested in a career in software development, cyber security, or developing computer games, you can learn the skills that employers are looking for in the computing industry on this IT software development course. You’ll close the gap between the classroom and the workplace, and find out more about the world of work.

Tuesday and Thursday 1:30pm-4:30pm (year 1)
Tuesday all day 9:00am-4:30pm (year 2)
Some Friday pm commitment
Duration: 1 or 2 years

  • What the course includes

    The course includes SQA units and industry experience. Some of the units covered are:

    • Computing applications: development
    • Computing: authoring a website
    • Software design and development

Entry requirements

  • Achieved or working towards National 5s
  • In 5th year of school on starting the course
  • Interested in learning about the industry
  • Capable of working at level 6 (Higher) over S5 and S6
  • Business

    Where this course leads

    Education: Modern Apprenticeship, HNC in Software Development or related field, university course in various computing subjects.

    Employment: roles such as IT software developer (including apps and games), web developer, database administrator, cyber security.

Interview arrangements

We will invite you to take part in a group discussion (15 to 20 minutes) and an individual interview (about five minutes).
