FOUNDATION APPRENTICESHIP IN FOOD AND DRINK TECHNOLOGIES - ST KENTIGERNS ACADEMY

This course gives you the background, knowledge and experience to develop a career in food science, nutrition or in food and drink product development. Whether you’re interested in sales or branding or becoming a nutritionist or product engineer, this course will help you get there. Whatever your interest, you’ll close the gap between the classroom and the workplace, and find out more about the world of work.

Please note, this course is delivered by West Lothian College staff within St Kentigern's Academy. You do not need to be a student at St Kentigern's to be able to apply to this course - any necessary travel will be organised by the college and school.

Tuesday and Thursday 1:30pm-4:30pm (year 1)
Placement 1 day per week (year 2) 
Some Friday afternoon attendance
Duration: 1 or 2 years

  • What the course includes

    You’ll gain industry experience and cover topics such as:

    Fundamentals of food science
    Food production
    Commercial and social drivers
    Sustainability
    REHIS food hygiene: elementary
    REHIS elementary health and safety certificate

Entry requirements

  • Achieved or working towards National 5
  • In 5th year of school on starting the course
  • Interested learning about the industry
  • Capable of working at level 6 (Higher)
  • Excellent school attendance record
  • Business

    Where this course leads

    Education: Modern Apprenticeship, progression to a related HNC, progression to degree-level study within the sector.

    Employment: product development manager, diagnostics technician, brand executive, nutritionist, food scientist, sales executive, food engineer and food safety manager.

Interview arrangements

We will invite you for a group interview followed by an individual interview.
