FOUNDATION APPRENTICESHIP IN ENGINEERING

This course is for students who want to develop their skills and knowledge with a view to a career in engineering, the advanced manufacturing sector and engineering-related industries. You’ll close the gap between the classroom and the workplace, and find out more about the world of work.

Tuesday and Thursday 1:30pm-4:30pm (year 1)
Tuesday all day 9:00am-4:30pm (year 2)
Some Friday pm commitment
Duration: 2 years

  • What the course includes

    The course covers theory, practice and includes work experience. Subjects include:

    • Engineering systems
    • Mechanical engineering
    • Electrical engineering
    • Fabrication and welding engineering
    • Manufacturing engineering

Entry requirements

  • Achieved or working towards National 5, preferably in English, maths, craft design and technology and/or science
  • In 5th year of school on starting the course
  • Interested in learning about the industry
  • Capable of working at level 6 (Higher)
  • Excellent school attendance record
  • Where this course leads

    Education: Modern Apprenticeship (Fast Track), HNC or HND in engineering, or another related subject, articulation into university to study an engineering related subject

    Employment: within an engineering role across areas such as aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, fabrication and welding

Interview arrangements

We will invite you for an interview. This usually lasts for around one and a half hours and consists of:

  • Presentation by a tutor about the course
  • Tour of engineering
  • Short test (mainly mathematical skills)
  • Individual interview
