Female Football Leader Course supported by SFA

This course supported by the Scottish Football Association (SFA) is to develop the Female Football Leaders of the future. If you have a passion about Football, coaching and physical activity then this is the course for you, to start you on a journey of leadership development. The course will focus on the skillsets required to support the development of grassroots football, an industry that contains over 150,000 registered players and 10,000 volunteers in Scotland.

  • What the course includes

    The course will include session planning, fitness profiling, dealing with equipment and facilities as well as taking a look at your next steps towards education or employment. With the support of the SFA you will also gain knowledge on what it takes to be an effective leader when facilitating football sessions in a fun and safe environment.

On successful completion of this course you will have accessed the SFA Coach Education pathway and been provided with additional opportunities to further develop your leadership skills with local clubs and authorities. With components of the course delivered by the SFA Regional Education Officer, you will have the opportunity to network and connect across different parts of the game.

Entry requirements

Learners wishing to access this Level 5 course must be able to evidence at least three National 4 qualifications or equivalent at grade C or above, one of which must be English. It would be advantageous if applicants have a passion for activity and want to become a leader in the Football Industry. An Enhanced Disclosure Scotland application is required which you will do through the college if offered a place. If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where will it lead?

    On completion of the Level 5 Female Football Leaders course learners could complete the full programme at Level 5 in Sport or progress onto the Level 6 courses in Personal Fitness or Sports Performance.  


    On completion of the Level 5 Female Football Leaders course learners could go on to complete their UEFA Grassroots Leaders Award, opening up opportunities for paid employment within grassroots football.

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview/course information session, plan to be in college for around two hours. The interview includes:

  • An introduction from the course tutor
  • An individual interview
  • Short written task
  • Please bring your practical kit and be prepared to take part in some sporting activity.
  • Also bring evidence of your qualifications and/or employment references.
