ESOL NATIONAL 3

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) helps you to improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English.

This introductory course will help you take the first steps on your ESOL journey and to develop your understanding of the English language. You will improve your language skills, including reading, writing, listening and speaking. You will also study Core Skills, for example ICT and Communications and this will develop your confidence in speaking through presenting on topics that interest you to your class.

  • What the course includes

    The course includes the National 3 ESOL award and a range of units to support your study and your understanding of the language for use in everyday life, social and work situations. This course prepares you for further ESOL study and progression to the next level of study. You will cover a range of units for example:

    ESOL in Context 

    ESOL: Speaking and listening

ESOL National 3

This course provides a platform to help your understanding of spoken and written English and improve your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in a supportive environment. You will develop your confidence in speaking in situations like going to the doctor, helping your children at school and at your work. Completing this course will also support your progression to further full time or part time study at college. 

Entry requirements

Expected to be working at level 2 or above (we will assess this).

If you are at beginner level there are other options we can offer you, for example you can access free study with West Lothian Council

Interview arrangements

We will invite you to meet in college or online to assess your level of English language. This takes around two hours.
