The British Sign Language (BSL) (SCQF Level 4) qualification is aimed at helping learners to develop advanced skills in BSL and to improve fluency and confidence for conversations in complex, practical and abstract topics.

  • What the course includes

    This course will teach students how to use BSL in everyday situations and communicate correctly and accurately as well as how to use straightforward structures and expanding vocabulary across a range of contexts from everyday topics to more specialised subjects, education, health and the workplace.

This course will help students use British Sign Language to establish social relations, transact the business of everyday living and to understand presentations for a range of needs including, information, pleasure and vocational.  Also engaging in longer, more detailed conversations on topics such as culture, current events, personal experience and professional settings. 

Entry requirements

To apply for this course you must have achieved the SQA qualification certificate of British Sign Language: An Introduction- SCQF level 3, SQA unit F8Y0 09.

    Language skills, such as Communication/Educational Support Worker (C/ESW) and similar jobs. 

    Progression onto a higher level BSL course for future careers, such as BSL interpreter, Teacher of the Deaf and other various employments. 

What are the interview arrangements?

All applicants must have achieved BSL Level 3 to progress. Interview is not required. English is not your first language ESOL level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
