This course is designed to enable candidates to develop basic proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL). Students will work individually and as a group to gather new skills and make use of them in class.
This course includes day to day usage of BSL, finger spelling and personal information and greetings.
BSL is the primary language for many Deaf people in the UK.
By learning it, you can help bridge the communication gap, promote inclusivity, and create stronger connections with the Deaf community.
BSL goes beyond spoken words, including facial expressions, body language, and gestures. This can enhance your overall communication skills and improve your ability to convey meaning nonverbally.
Knowing BSL is a valuable skill and may support you in your employment, such as healthcare, education, social services, and customer service. It can set you apart in job applications and help you better serve diverse populations.
If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
