The photography industry is continuing to grow in response to the rise in digital and social media advertising; which relies heavily on imagery. It is estimated that there are over 500 companies specialising in the photography industry within Scotland. Many of these companies are freelance photographers or sole traders.

As a college, we offer photography courses for schools at two different levels, from schools level 5 (introductory) up to level 6 (Higher Photography) to prepare you for further study and employment within this industry.

We have excellent links with local employers and related organisations, and we use these relationships to benefit our students by bringing in knowledgeable speakers from the industry.  Our previous photography students have received sessions from a range of freelance photographers with many years’ worth of experience in industry, previous students who have set up their own business and speakers from Smug Mug.

As a college, we know that not all learning takes place within a classroom or college setting. We take our students out to various different organisations and settings, with previous students visiting Camera Obscura in Edinburgh.

We support our students to achieve their potential and to promote their work during their time at college. One of our previous photography students Rodger Shearer, was one of only 26 students across the whole of Scotland to have their work presented within a prestigious exhibition at The Scottish Parliament.
