The hairdressing industry is continuing to grow, with new treatments and services continuously being developed in response to customer demand. With more services being offered, there is more demand for skilled hairdressers, meaning a huge range of opportunities.
As a college, we offer a range of hairdressing courses in a variety of different levels, from preparation courses at Level 4 up to courses at Level 6 (SVQ 3) to prepare you for employment within this industry. We also offer a range of specialist part-time courses in areas such as barbering, blow drying and evening hair if you wish to focus on one element of hairdressing.
We have excellent links with local employers and related organisations, and we use these relationships to benefit our students by bringing in knowledgeable speakers from the industry. Our previous hairdressing students have received sessions from experts from a range of companies such as Salon Services, Wella, Bridge2Business and Business Gateway. Our students have also been lucky enough to receive demonstrations and training from the Great Barber Bash.
As a college, we know that not all learning takes place within a classroom or college setting. We take our students out to various different organisations and settings, with previous students visiting local hairdressing businesses and getting the opportunity to compete in World Skills and Association of Hairdressers & Therapists (AHT) competitions which take them across the UK. Our previous hairdressing students have also been given the opportunity to travel to Portugal with the college to complete a work placement, and learn more about how the industry works in another country.
Many of our hairdressing students also complete a placement to allow them to build the skills and experience needed to excel in their future career. Previous students have had the opportunity for work placements within companies such as Charlie Miller and Toni & Guy, along with a range of local hairdressing businesses. Our students also get hands on experience by offering services at a range of events such as the Gathering, Party at the Palace and the Children in Scotland Annual Conference.
