Breagh Reilly won the SQA Student of the Year Award at the 2019 graduation.

On nominating Breagh, lecturer Alex Harvey said: “Breagh came to West Lothian College originally through the Schools Portfolio Evening Class, she was then accepted directly on to the HNC Art course, which can be a challenging leap straight from school but Breagh quickly established herself as an enthusiastic learner: embracing each project with determination, creativity and flair.

“Breagh was an exemplary student, unwavering in her focus and resolve throughout her studies; using every available moment to develop her skills and going above and beyond in each task set.

“As an individual Breagh remains incredibly modest, despite these accolades, and was very much an integral part of a mutually supportive HNC group and a pleasure to have in class.”

Breagh is now studying Sculpture and Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art where she recently received a request to have work from her portfolio included on the Glasgow School of Art website: an exciting confirmation of the standard of Breagh's productivity during her time at West Lothian College.

At graduation Breagh said: “I wasn’t expecting so it’s a bit of a shock but it does feel quite nice! Having your efforts recognised is really good but anyone I knew could have gotten it so I didn’t expect it at all.

“I’ve loved every minute of college, it was probably the best decision I made not going straight from school to something else, this was a great pathway.”
