Sharon Crawford HNC Electrical Engineering
Sharon Crawford is the first to admit that she chose her course of study on somewhat of a whim but she is also quick to acknowledge the positive impact studying at West Lothian College has had on her.
“I was in the midst of some DIY and I was putting flooring along the back of my stairs and I thought these would look great with spotlights in them. I went onto the college website and before I knew it I had applied for a course in electrical engineering!”
While excited about a new start, 41 year old Sharon hadn’t studied in a long time and this was something that concerned her slightly.
“I was nervous about returning to education after a long break but I was delighted to find that the course was everything I expected and more. I love the coursework and the lecturers are great. There isn’t one member of the staff who isn’t approachable.”
Sharon is a familiar face around the college as she immerses herself in student life and is always willing to lend a hand at external college events and is an integral member of the STEM club.
“I just find that the more you put in, the more you get out of your time at college.”
Looking to the future, Sharon hopes to be back at the college someday in a teaching capacity:
“I never intended to come here and decide on teaching but I have learned so much and I really can see myself in a teaching role down the line.”
