Connor Green HNC Childhood Practice

Connor Green explains why Childcare is the right career for him.

My name is Connor Green. I live in Bathgate and I am 21. I study HNC Childhood Practice at West Lothian College. I previously studied Level 6 Early Years and Childcare here and I am really happy to be back at the College to take the next steps on my career path.

After previously studying at the College I had been working in a nursery in order to gain some experience and earn a little money but my goal was always to return. West Lothian College is right on my doorstep which is really handy for me.

I returned to College to study the HNC in Childhood Practice but my ultimate goal is to study the HND and Degree and then I really want to have a career as a primary school teacher.

The course is really interesting and it’s really hands on which is great. It’s nice to come to and study something I really enjoy and a subject I’m really passionate about. Because I’ve already had a bit of work experience I know what my strengths and weaknesses are so I think that’s actually made studying a bit easier for me.

Some people unfortunately still see Childcare as subject for women which is a shame because although that may have been the case in the past things are different now and more and more men want to work in childcare. I’m really glad I do. I would say to anyone that was thinking about studying childcare or anyone who is thinking about doing a course or job which has been traditionally seen as a subject for a specific gender is go for it! Don’t let a stereotype hold you back. If you are passionate about the subject and care about what you are doing it really doesn’t matter if you are male or female. If you are willing to work hard you can achieve your goal.
