Connor Green HNC Childhood Practice
Connor Green explains why Childcare is the right career for him.
My name is Connor Green. I live in Bathgate and I am 21. I study HNC Childhood Practice at West Lothian College. I previously studied Level 6 Early Years and Childcare here and I am really happy to be back at the College to take the next steps on my career path.
After previously studying at the College, I had been working in a nursery in order to gain some experience and earn a little money but my goal was always to return. West Lothian College is right on my doorstep which is really handy for me.
I returned to College to study the HNC in Childhood Practice but my ultimate goal is to study the HND and then I really want to have a career as a primary school teacher.
The course is really interesting and it’s really hands-on which is great. It’s nice to come to and study something I really enjoy, a subject I’m really passionate about. Since I’ve already had a bit of work experience, I know what my strengths and weaknesses are which I think actually made studying a bit easier for me.
Some people unfortunately still see Childcare as subject for women which is a shame because, although this may have been the case in the past, things are different now as more and more men want to work in childcare. I’m really glad I do. For anyone who is thinking about studying a course or working in a job which has been traditionally seen as being designed for a specific gender: Go for it! Don’t let a stereotype hold you back. If you are passionate about the subject and care about what you are doing, it really doesn’t matter if you are male or female. If you are willing to work hard you can achieve your goal.
