West Lothian College wins a double at prestigious award cermony

The college were named winners in the Outstanding Employer Engagement in Colleges category at the ceremony held at the Double Tree Hilton in Glasgow on 28th June while retiring West Lothian College Principal Mhairi Harrington OBE was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.

West Lothian College recently partnered with the Malaysian Economic Planning Unit on an initiative designed so that partners could enhance vocational programmes and outcomes for learners through curriculum development driven by closer collaboration with employers.

Mitsubishi are the third largest employer, and the largest engineering employer in the West Lothian region – making them an excellent choice for partnership in this project engaging with the college’s HND Engineering students. It was also felt a partnership with Mitsubishi would give learners direct access to, and experience of working within a large engineering organisation and potential future employer.

Mhairi Harrington OBE retires this summer after a long and distinguished career in Higher Education. Mhairi was appointed Principal & Chief Executive at West Lothian College in 2008 and is one of the most inspirational and respected leaders in Scottish Further Education.

Mhairi has been a leading force in improving the delivery of education and skills to meet the needs and demands of students and stakeholders throughout West Lothian. Mhairi is recognised locally for the significant contribution that she has made to Further Education within the local community.
