About the College

West Lothian College is an award winning provider of further education based in Livingston, West Lothian since 2001.

West Lothian College is a welcoming, bright and modern environment, which is well equipped to ensure that students have the best facilities and resources to help develop their learning and skills. The College is an essential provider of a vast range of courses all focused on developing relevant skills for employment, to help students in their future career or to enhance current career prospects for those who are already working.

The College is led by Principal and Chief Executive Mhairi Harrington OBE and is renowned for its successful collaborations with external partners such as skills organisations, universities, government organisations and community groups.

The College has five distinct Skills Centres of Excellence, the Skills Centre, the Access Centre, the Creative Centre, the Business Partnership Centre and the Wellbeing Centre, covering the full gamut of full-time and part-time vocational subjects. This can be achieved either at the college or at one of many partner universities, with which the college has established excellent articulation links.

The College currently serves approximately 8000 learners on a full-time, part-time and distance learning basis across a number of key sectors including, Healthcare and Care, Retail, Distribution, Computing and Electronics, Engineering, Construction, Sports, Hospitality, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Creative Industries, Business and Management.

Valuing our Staff

The wellbeing of staff is one of our top priorities and we actively pursue opportunities to involve staff in activities, which promote and support their well being. In March 2005 the college was awarded the Scotland Health at Work (SHAW) bronze award.

Staff and their families are invited to join the College’s sports club. Membership entitles you to access our fully equipped fitness suite and book for other team sports, such as badminton, tennis, basketball, volleyball and football.

Staff can also access a range of services and treatments through our Platinum Salon. The facilities are modern and our students provide a professional service in a welcoming environment.

Continuous Professional Development

The College is committed to Continuous Professional Development for all staff and has a well embedded approach to Professional Development and Career Review. The College has dedicated 4 days per year for whole college development as well as team development days throughout the year. In 2004 we received a commended award from the Scottish Further Education Unit for the College’s management development and succession planning programme, which was undertaken by over 70 staff.

Access and Inclusion

The College is continually working with its community to promote wider access. Our inclusive approach means that we have built a reputation for welcoming all learners and providing a high quality service.

We celebrate the success of our students through a range of activities, including the Graduation ceremony.

The College is fully accessible for students with physical disabilities and has ample car parking including designated spaces for people with a disability, motorcyclists and visitors.
