Information on Health and Safety and how it affects you, along with emergency evacuation procedures.
Health and Safety - Me?
We want you to have the best possible learning experience while at college. Your health and safety and that of others are an important part of that experience. The college already is a healthy and safe place for children, parents, the less able, young and old alike. Your active help and cooperation is needed to make sure that continues.
I'm responsible - no kidding!
You need to know that you have a personal responsibility for your own health and safety. You also have a personal responsibility for the health and safety of other people who use the college. And that's not kidding! Doing something like playing around with a fire extinguisher is a criminal offence!
OK, what do I need to do?
Dead easy! You need to be aware of what you do and how you do it while at college. Why? Because what you do and how you do it may affect the safety and health of you and other people. Taking time to find a parking space allows everyone to get a space and allows easier access for less able students.
So, what things do I need to think about?
Your part of the deal is set out in the Student Committment. If you follow that guidance, then we can all enjoy a safe and healthy college.
And if I don't?
Well, that's up to you - to start with. But the college must take whatever action it thinks necessary to keep it a healthy and safe place to be.

Fire and Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Health and Safety information noticeboards are placed at the entrance to each building. The information describes evacuation procedures and you should read these and know what is required of you. Please check the location of the nearest fire exit and be aware of evacuation routes, exit points and assembly points.
In the event of an evacuation, please follow the procedures for the building you are in. You should follow any instruction given by Interserve staff. There are designated Fire Wardens for each building and if you are in class, the member of staff responsible for the group will evacuate and take the class register.
An evacuation alarm should be taken very seriously and all procedures should be followed.
No-one should make their way to the smoking bubble or to their cars. Cars will not be allowed to enter or leave the campus during an evacuation. If you discover a fire:
- sound the alarm - activate fire alarm by breaking glass at nearest point
- let a member of staff know where the fire is or ring the helpdesk on 7616
- leave the area and do not use any lift
