FAQs for part time students on non-advanced programmes

Will my childcare costs be met while attending College?
Yes, but only for timetabled classes. Costs will not be met during College holidays.

How will childcare payments be made?
Payments will be made to the childcare provider, monthly in advance, on submission of an appropriate invoice.

Is there a limit on the childcare costs that will be met for each family?
No.

Can I choose the nursery I would like my child to attend?
Yes. The College will pay for any formal childcare arranged by the child’s parent/guardian. If having difficulty finding a childcare provider, please contact the Bursary Office on 01506 418181.

Does the part time bursary entitle me to travel and study expenses?
Yes, however this is dependent on your personal circumstances, eg. income.

As a part time student am I entitled to Council Tax relief?
No.

As a part time student am I entitled to Housing Benefit?

This would only be available to you if you have been awarded the maximum £500 student loan. For further information speak to the College Bursary Officer in Spectrum.

Does the part time student loan entitle me to travel expenses?

As a part time student am I entitled to Council Tax relief?
No.

As a part time student am I entitled to Housing Benefit?

Can I get help with any additional living expenses, such as housing costs and excessive travel?
Yes, but you must have taken the maximum Student Loan available and either you or your partner must be in receipt of Working Tax Credit.

Help with fees for EU students

Is there help with fees for EU students?
You may qualify for support with your tuition fees if you meet all of the following conditions:

  • You are an EU national, or the child or stepchild of an EU national.
  • You have been ordinarily resident in a member state of the EU or elsewhere in the EEA and Switzerland for the three years immediately before the relevant date.
  • You are taking a course of full time study in Scotland and plan to graduate in Scotland.
