On this course you will learn and develop key skills relevant to Childhood Practice. Successful completion of this course allows you to register with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) at Practitioner level.

Duration

One academic year

Aim

You will gain expertise and understanding of Childhood Practice by studying subjects including Lifespan Development, Theoretical Approaches, Health, Well-being and Safeguarding. This award will allow you to work with children and young people aged between 0-18 years.

Opportunities

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills further on placements within a professional working environments.

Entry

•2 Highers (1 must be Higher English, Communication at Higher or Written English at Higher on your Core Skills Profile) at C grade or above, or a Level 6 Childhood Practice qualification or equivalent.

•Experience in a childcare or related setting.

•IT skills, for presentation of assessments, are desirable.

•Entry is by interview where a written assessment will be undertaken.

Prospects

Education: Possible progression to HND Childhood Practice or you can apply for degree level courses.

Employment: Various roles in Childcare with Statutory, Voluntary or Private organisations including Schools, Nurseries, Creches and Family Centres.

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview for this course, the instructions are below:

Please expect to be in college for around three hours and applicants are required to bring evidence of their qualifications, and/or employment references if available. Individual interviews will be held with two members of staff and timeslots will be allocated on the day.
